December, an eleven-year-old girl, has a clear destiny: to become a bird. She believes that one day wings will sprout from the scar on her back and she will fly far away, escaping from her foster home. While training to fly, she must hide her plans from adults and her best friend, pretending to be normal until the moment of her departure. This moving story explores themes of identity, belonging, and the search for a place in the world.
