«La soledad del ángel de la guarda» is the novel by Raúl Guerra Garrido, published by Alianza Editorial in hardcover (224 pages, in Spanish).
A bodyguard protecting a professor threatened by terrorism recalls in an interior monologue his work as a «guardian angel» in an unspecified country. Between loyalty to his charge and the feeling of being an outsider, the novel portrays the lack of communication, the fear of the latent threat, and the paranoias of one who lives protecting others with his body.
Published in 2007 in the Alianza Literaria collection. Raúl Guerra Garrido received the Premio Nacional de las Letras in 2006.
