In "The Shadow of the Silk Road", Colin Thubron, an experienced traveler, embarks on a journey along the legendary Silk Road. Forty years after his first visit, Thubron travels by bus, train, cart and camel over eleven thousand kilometers in eight months, from Xi'an, in the heart of China, to Antioch, passing through the mountains of Central Asia, northern Afghanistan and the plains of Iran.
In this book, Thubron seeks the trace of what was the largest land route in the world, that thanks to which not only silk arrived in the West, but also paper, gunpowder, the stirrup or the bridle, creating with his words a magnificent vision of an ancient world exposed to the agitation of the modern era.
