«La suocera» is the comedy by Publio Terenzio Afro, published by Rizzoli in paperback with bilingual Italian-Latin text on facing pages (160 pages).
With Hecyra, Terence invites reflection on prejudices and social conventions. The play centers on Sostrata, unjustly accused of having driven away her daughter-in-law; her attitude disproves the stereotype of the difficult mother-in-law and, together with the courtesan Bacchide, embodies a more authentic humanity.
1989 edition, volume 742 of the BUR Classici greci e latini collection, edited by Marina Cavalli (introduction, translation and notes).
Aimed at Latin students and readers interested in classical theater and Roman comedy.
