«La Tentation de l'Occident» is André Malraux's essay, published by Le Livre de Poche in paperback (160 pages, in French).
Correspondence between A.D., a European in the Far East, and Ling, a Chinese man in Europe. Malraux contrasts Western dynamism with the serenity of Chinese thought: A.D. is tempted by Asian balance and Ling rejects the intellectual aridity of the West. The essay defends Eastern harmony and serves as an introduction to Malraux's thought.
Originally published in 1926, the text is offered complete in this edition from the Ldp Litterature collection (no. 3283).
For readers interested in the philosophical essay, dialogue between cultures and twentieth-century French literature.

Georges André Malraux was a French novelist, member of the French Resistance, art theorist, and minister of cultural affairs. Malraux's novel La Condition Humaine (1933) is set during the 1927 Shanghai uprising and won the Prix Goncourt; L'Espoir arose from his experiences during the Spanish Civil War. After the Second World War he abandoned fiction and wrote several works on art history, collected as La Psychologie de l'Art. He was appointed by President Charles de Gaulle as information minister (1945–46) and subsequently as France's first cultural affairs minister during de Gaulle's presidency (1959–1969).
