«Las ninfas» is the novel by Francisco Umbral, published by Destino in paperback (247 pages, in Spanish).
The work focuses on an adolescent in transition to adult life: it evokes the child he once was, discovers desire for the beloved woman, and shares adventures with friends during a summer night. Francisco Umbral wraps this process in an atmosphere of sensuality and melancholy, where the real and the imagined are barely distinguishable.
The novel was awarded the Eugenio Nadal Prize in 1975 and belongs to the Destinolibro Collection (no. 55).
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction who appreciate lyrical prose and coming-of-age novels.
Francisco Alejandro Pérez Martínez, better known as Francisco Umbral, was a Spanish journalist, novelist, biographer and essayist.
