The mass of nuclear waste continues to grow. What should be done with this waste? For the nuclear industry in France and many other actors, burying it 500 meters underground in Bure is the best solution. No one denies the need to treat nuclear waste. However, this project, rationally managed for over twenty years, is not consensual. On the contrary, it has created elective affinities among very different opponents: from farmers to activists and the Catholic Church. The project is advancing (with difficulty), and the criticism from opponents has transformed into genuine indignation against the project and its promoters. Is this indignation doomed to fade, or can it transform into a societal project?
