On the eve of the 1870 war, Charles Barthélémie, owner of the Solail wine estate, dies; his children Léonce and Charlotte clash over the inheritance. Phylloxera, the 1907 crisis and the wars shape the fate of Charlotte, impetuous and generous, who fights to preserve the vineyards and restore the French Midi to its former glory.

First installment of the Les Vignes de Sainte-Colombe saga; the work was originally published in 1996 and won the Prix des Maisons de la Presse in 1997.
