«L'isola» is the illustrated fiction book by Matz Mainka, with illustrations by Ana Juan, published by Logos in hardcover (48 pages, in Italian).
A lighthouse keeper tries to drown his loneliness in alcohol and, in the grip of his delusions, falls in love with a woman who seems to have stepped out of his hallucinations. The story combines sensuality, madness and desolation in a raw tale, with Ana Juan's dreamlike and melancholic illustrations as a visual counterpoint.
Second volume in the Spaccacuore collection and the North Sea Trilogy; recommended reading from age 14.
For lovers of dark-atmosphere illustration and poetic narratives with an unsettling undertone.
