Ramon Llull's 'Llibre de les bèsties' is a work that is part of the 'Llibre de meravelles o Fèlix'. Written in Paris between 1288 and 1289, this story, prior to 1286, is not a medieval bestiary, but a 'mirror' of princes with a didactic and moralizing intention for rulers, according to the Christian ideal that Llull promotes and defends. The exemplary narration transports the reader to the medieval world, where, after the election of Ijeó as king, Na Renard, the cunning fox, plots intrigues to control power and remove the noblest royal advisors, making the monarch guilty of surrounding himself with vile advisors.

Ramon Llull, sometimes anglicized as Raymond Lully, was a Catholic philosopher, theologian, poet, missionary, apologist and former knight, born in Palma de Mallorca. He invented a philosophical system known as the Art, conceived as a type of universal logic to prove the truth of Christian doctrine to interlocutors of all faiths and nationalities. The Art consists of a set of general principles and combinatorial operations. It is illustrated with diagrams.
