«Mémoires d'un âne» is the children's novel by Sophie de Ségur, published by Hachette in paperback (253 pages, in French).
Cadichon, a donkey who flees mistreatment on the farm, writes his memoirs in the woods: he makes friends, rescues a girl from a fire, helps an old woman and a street performer, helps catch thieves, and saves a boy who had killed his friend Médor. His good deeds meet with human ingratitude, though he tells it with humor.
The work belongs to the Nouvelle Bibliothèque rose collection; this recorded edition dates from 1989.
For young readers starting out on the classics of French children's literature and for those seeking animal-led stories with a moral.
