«Nicht Chicago. Nicht hier.» is the young adult novel by Kirsten Boie, published by Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag in paperback (126 pages, in German).
Karl, a new classmate, steals, humiliates and hits Niklas for no apparent reason. Niklas, thirteen years old, suffers in silence: his family does not believe him («we're not in Chicago here») and the police advise them to withdraw the complaint. The novel alternates two points of view to portray the victim's helplessness in the face of school bullying.
Published in 2002 in the dtv junior collection (number 70683) and recommended for readers aged 12 and up.
For young readers and for reading in the classroom, as a starting point for talking about school bullying.
