Oculto sendero is an unpublished novel and the literary testament of Elena Fortún, published posthumously. In this work, Fortún narrates a fictionalized autobiography during her exile in Argentina, signing it under the pseudonym of Rosa María Castaños. The protagonist, María Luisa Arroyo, is a painter who since childhood longed to dress as a sailor, an alter-ego of the author. The novel explores María Luisa's path towards understanding her homosexuality, a journey parallel to the discovery and development of her artistic and intellectual potential. Set in Spain before 1936, 'Oculto sendero' offers an intimate and necessary portrait of the struggle of an exceptional woman in search of her identity and freedom.

María de la Encarnación Gertrudis Jacoba Aragoneses y de Urquijo was a Spanish author of children's literature who wrote under the pen name Elena Fortún. She became famous for Celia, lo que dice the first in the series of children's novels which were a collection of short stories first published in magazines in 1929. The series were both popular and successful during the time of their publications and are today considered classics of Spanish literature.
