«Phèdre» is the tragedy by Jean Racine, published by Folio in paperback (160 pages, in French).
Phaedra, wife of Theseus, is torn between duty and a forbidden passion for her stepson Hippolytus. With Theseus's death announced, the characters are swept along by confession, jealousy and guilt. Racine weaves psychology, myth and epic into a story of desire, taboo and destiny.
This edition is number 23 in the Folio Théâtre collection, prepared by Christian Delmas and Georges Forestier. It was published in 1995.
For students of French literature and those interested in seventeenth-century classical theater.

Jean-Baptiste Racine was a French dramatist, one of the three great playwrights of 17th-century France, along with Molière and Corneille, as well as an important literary figure in the Western tradition and world literature. Racine was primarily a tragedian, producing such "examples of neoclassical perfection" as Phèdre, Andromaque, and Athalie. He did write one comedy, Les Plaideurs, and a muted tragedy, Esther, for the young.
