«Trois contes» is the collection of three tales by Gustave Flaubert, published by Editions Gallimard in paperback (192 pages, in French).
Flaubert brought together here three tales written around 1875: «Un cœur simple», about Félicité, a servant who pours her affection into a parrot; «La leyenda de san Julián el Hospitalario», a story of medieval tradition; and «Hérodias», which recreates a biblical episode. The author conceived them as a rest and they are a sample of his narrative maturity.
Volume 424 of the Folio classique collection, with a preface by Michel Tournier and the complete text in French. The work was originally published in 1877.
A nineteenth-century classic, especially suitable for readers of French literature and for those approaching it in a school or university setting.

Gustave Flaubert was a French novelist. He has been considered the leading exponent of literary realism in his country and abroad. He is known especially for his debut novel Madame Bovary (1857), his Correspondence, and his scrupulous devotion to his style and aesthetics. The celebrated writer Guy de Maupassant was a protégé of Flaubert.
