«Phèdre» is the tragedy by Jean Racine, published by L'Aventurine in paperback (115 pages, in French).
«Phèdre» opens in Trézène with Hippolytus ready to leave in search of his father, Theseus, absent for more than six months. Hippolytus wonders whether Theseus is hiding his whereabouts or whether his absence is due to new passions. Love, duty and secrecy sustain this classical tragedy.
«Phèdre» was originally published in 1677 and belongs to the «Parcours d'une oeuvre» series of the Classiques universels collection.
Aimed at students of French literature and readers of seventeenth-century classical theater.

Jean-Baptiste Racine was a French dramatist, one of the three great playwrights of 17th-century France, along with Molière and Corneille, as well as an important literary figure in the Western tradition and world literature. Racine was primarily a tragedian, producing such "examples of neoclassical perfection" as Phèdre, Andromaque, and Athalie. He did write one comedy, Les Plaideurs, and a muted tragedy, Esther, for the young.
