«Philip of Spain» is the biography of King Philip II of Spain by Henry Kamen, published by Yale University Press in hardcover (384 pages, in English).
Four centuries after the death of Philip II, this biography places him in his social, cultural and religious context, with unpublished sources and personal correspondence. Kamen nuances the image of the king as a repressive tyrant: he presents him as a cosmopolitan prince, conservative but not fanatical, who supported the defenders of the Indians in America.
Philip II (1527-1598) reigned in Spain between 1556 and 1598; the edition includes bibliography (pp. 363-368) and index.
For those interested in the history of Spain, the Habsburg monarchy and historical biography.
