«Pirata ausarta» is the children's picture book by Ricardo Alcántara and Gusti, published by Pamiela argitaletxea in hardcover (14 pages, in Basque).
Juantxo is a pirate boy so reckless that the rest of the crew trembles at his approach. When his mother calls him for a snack in the middle of the adventure, his imagination turns any everyday object into a game: sailing, boarding and hunting for treasure without leaving home. The rhyming text and Gusti's illustrations unfold scenes full of movement.
Basque-language edition in the Tamaina Handia collection, co-published by Kalandraka and Pamiela. Original text and illustrations from 1989, translated by Xabier Olaso Bengoa; 2019 edition.
For boys and girls aged 3 and up, especially suited to Basque-language reading and first encounters with picture books.
