A stifling summer day in St. Louis, Missouri: Steve Everett, a journalist with his career and marriage ruined, interviews Frank Beachum, a death-row inmate who will be executed at midnight. Two desperate men, each the other's only hope: the interview can give Everett his job back and save Beachum's life.
The novel was originally published in 1995; this Italian edition, translated by Vittorio Curtoni, appeared in 1998 in the Teadue collection.
