«Primera història d'Esther» is the play by Salvador Espriu, published by La Vanguardia in hardcover (79 pages, in Catalan).
A short play that appeared in 1948, when Catalan theatre was beginning to recover after years of ostracism. Many consider it Salvador Espriu's masterpiece: a work that can also be read as a song of resistance in the dark postwar period.
It bears the subtitle «improvisació per a titelles»; the cover shows the Ayma literary collection, this edition is from 2012 and reproduces a dedication by Espriu to Rosa Leveroni written in 1950.
For readers interested in twentieth-century Catalan literature and the recovery of postwar theatre.
Salvador Espriu i Castelló was a Catalan poet from Spain.
