«Quando Eu Nasci» is a children's picture book by Isabel Minhós Martins and Madalena Matoso (Planeta Tangerina, paperback, 24 pages, in Portuguese).
The starting point is the darkness surrounding the baby before birth; afterwards, everything is new: the sun, the flowers, the faces, the sounds and the smells. The pages cover everyday discoveries such as the color of the seabed, the sound of a falling leaf or the smell of holidays, and celebrate the adventure of breathing, tasting and feeling.
The work received a special mention from the jury at the Prémio Nacional de Ilustração (2007).
Recommended by Portugal's National Reading Plan for guided reading in 2nd grade, it is suitable for early readers and for sharing as a family.
