«Qui étaient nos ancêtres?» is an essay on history and genealogy by Jean-Louis Beaucarnot, published by J'ai lu in paperback (450 pages, in French).
The author explores family history, the origin of surnames and everyday expressions like «coincer la bulle». With humor, he shows the gulf between our ancestors' lives and today's in daily life, work, love and religion, with curiosities such as the likely descent from Ramses II or Charlemagne.
The full title is «Qui étaient nos ancêtres ?: De leur histoire à la nôtre». The work was originally published in 2002; this J'ai lu edition is from April 2004.
Ideal for those wishing to connect with their roots: the author, a popularizer of genealogy in France, presents family history with humor and warmth.
