«Retablo jovial» is Alejandro Casona's collection of short plays, published by Bruño in paperback (224 pages, in Spanish).
Retablo jovial brings together five short farces in which Alejandro Casona channels his taste for popular theater: agile dialogue, constant humor and wit in adapting classical texts to bring them closer to today's audiences.
The edition by Juan Luis Suárez Granda includes an introduction, notes and activities. Retablo jovial was originally published in 1949.
Recommended for young people aged 13 and over and for secondary school students approaching classical Spanish theater.

Alejandro Rodríguez Álvarez, known as Alejandro Casona was a Spanish poet and playwright born in Besullo, Spain, a member of the Generation of '27. Casona received his bachelor's degree in Gijon and later studied at the University of Murcia. After Franco's rise in 1936, he was forced, like many Spanish intellectuals, to leave Spain. He lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina until April 1962, when he definitively returned to Spain.
