«Ruy Blas» is Victor Hugo's romantic drama, published by Magnard in paperback (191 pages, in French).
Ruy Blas, a lackey in love with the queen, passes himself off as the nobleman don César to betray her on don Salluste's orders; instead, he defends the kingdom and becomes a minister. The work deploys the codes of romantic drama, mixing registers and tragic tension.
It belongs to the Classiques & Patrimoine collection (no. 80), with complete text and didactic apparatus: literary figures, transition from oral to written, and art history with El Greco, Velázquez and Goya.
School edition aimed at secondary and high school students, useful for preparing 19th-century French romantic theatre in the classroom.
