«Si te dicen que caí» is the novel by Spanish writer Juan Marsé, published by Bibliotex in hardcover (288 pages, in Spanish).
The novel is set in postwar Barcelona and portrays a group of boys growing up in a poor neighborhood marked by repression and misery. Through the «aventis», stories invented by the children, the characters reconstruct and fantasize about a hostile reality, mixing everyday chronicle with fantasy.
Published in 1973, the novel was initially banned in Spain and its first edition of 1976 was seized; revised in 1989. This 2001 edition includes a prologue by Alicia Giménez Bartlett.
For readers of Spanish fiction and historical fiction interested in the postwar period and the memory of 20th-century Spain.
