«Sideways Stories from Wayside School» is the children's storybook by Louis Sachar, published by Bloomsbury in paperback (144 pages, in English).
The Wayside School building was constructed vertically: its thirty classrooms are stacked on thirty floors, and that is why very strange things happen there. Each chapter features an eccentric student or teacher, such as the wicked Mrs. Gorf, terrible Todd, or John, who only reads backwards. Short stories of absurd humor with eccentric characters.
First book in the Wayside School series, originally published in 1978; this English-language Bloomsbury edition is from 2010 and includes illustrations by Adam McCauley.
Aimed at children and young readers aged 7 and up, with short chapters that work well for independent early readers.
Louis Sachar is an American author. He is best known for the Wayside School series and the novel Holes.
