On a hot summer afternoon in 1972, three white teenagers, Alex Pappas and his friends Billy Cachoris and Pete Whitten, decide to drive to a marginal neighborhood in Washington. This incursion will change their lives forever. After a confrontation with three black boys, Billy dies and Alex is injured. In 2007, Alex runs his family's coffee shop and mourns the death of his son in Iraq. One of the black men who survived the incident in '72 contacts him, opening the door to reconciliation. However, another survivor, the man who injured Alex, is released from prison with the intention of extorting him.
