«Sombra» is the children's and young adult fantasy novel by Paloma Bordons, published by Ediciones SM in paperback (192 pages, in Spanish).
In the village of Sombra, ugly and gray, the word «hermoso» is considered unlucky. Nulo and Miaja, two children, imagine that the nearby castle is full of light and color, but things are not always what they seem. The story combines reality, fantasy and social criticism around beauty and freedom.
Published in 2004, the work belongs to the El Barco de Vapor Roja collection by Ediciones SM, number 161, and was awarded the Premio El Barco de Vapor 2004.
Recommended for children and young adult readers looking for a read with social background and characters who confront appearances.
