«Sotto la neve» is the mystery novel by Jefferson Farjeon, published by Polillo in paperback (265 pages, in Italian).
On Christmas Eve, a train gets trapped by snow. Some passengers get lost and find an isolated villa: it seems empty, but there's a lit fire, served tea and a knife on the floor. An elderly man with deductive skills and a mysterious Smith arrive; an enigmatic letter, a door that moves by itself and a macabre discovery in the snow complete the night.
The work was originally published as «Mystery in White» in 1937; this Italian edition, translated by Dario Pratesi, belongs to the collection «I bassotti» (no. 61).
Recommended for fans of classic mystery novels and Christmas stories with an unsettling atmosphere.
