«Sueños en el umbral» is the memoir by Fátima Mernissi, published by Círculo de Lectores in paperback (258 pages, in Spanish).
Fátima Mernissi evokes her childhood in a Moroccan harem, amid Islamic traditions and women who turn the courtyard into a stage for tales and fables. The narrative, woven as a bridge between Maghrebi and European culture, follows a girl who learns to negotiate borders and dreams of crossing the threshold into another life.
Translation of the original English «Dreams of Trespass: Tales of a Harem Girlhood» (1994); this Spanish edition is from 1995.
Will appeal to readers of memoirs, those wanting to discover Morocco from a female perspective, and those interested in feminism and cultural identity.
Fatema Mernissi was a Moroccan feminist writer and sociologist.
