«Temps et récit, tome 1» is the philosophical essay by Paul Ricœur, published by Seuil in paperback (404 pages, in French).
In this work, Paul Ricœur examines the relationships between time and narrative: he analyzes the construction of the plot and the forms of historical narrative, and reflects on how narrative discourse shapes temporal experience, from a perspective that articulates phenomenology and hermeneutics.
First volume in the Temps et récit series, with the subtitle «L'intrigue et le récit historique». Published on October 1, 1991.
For readers of philosophy interested in phenomenology, hermeneutics, and the analysis of historical narrative.
Jean Paul Gustave Ricœur was a French philosopher best known for combining phenomenological description with hermeneutics. As such, his thought is within the same tradition as other major hermeneutic phenomenologists, such as Martin Heidegger, Hans-Georg Gadamer, and Gabriel Marcel. In 2000, he was awarded the Kyoto Prize in Arts and Philosophy for having "revolutionized the methods of hermeneutic phenomenology, expanding the study of textual interpretation to include the broad yet concrete domains of mythology, biblical exegesis, psychoanalysis, theory of metaphor, and narrative theory."
