«The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana» is the illustrated novel by Umberto Eco, published by Secker & Warburg in hardcover (464 pages, in English).
Yambo, an Italian bookseller, wakes after a stroke without remembering his personal life, though he retains the memory of everything he has read. To reconstruct his identity, he takes refuge in his childhood home, where he reviews old comics, records, newspapers and books. The novel explores how popular culture and youthful reading shape memory and identity.
Novel originally published in Italian as «La misteriosa fiamma della regina Loana» (2004).

Umberto Eco was an Italian medievalist, philosopher, semiotician, novelist, cultural critic, and political and social commentator. In English, he is best known for his popular 1980 novel The Name of the Rose, a historical mystery combining semiotics in fiction with biblical analysis, medieval studies and literary theory, as well as Foucault's Pendulum, his 1988 novel which touches on the history of occultism and its contemporary interpretation through the new age movement.
