«The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana» is the illustrated novel by Umberto Eco, published by Harcourt, Inc. in hardcover (502 pages, in English).
After waking from a coma, Yambo has lost the memory of his life, but retains intact the recollection of everything he has read. To reconstruct who he is, he reviews the books, comics and songs of his childhood in fascist Italy. His identity becomes tied to printed popular culture, in a reflection on memory, history and the power of stories.
Work originally published in Italian in 2004 as «La misteriosa fiamma della regina Loana».
A read for those interested in literary and historical fiction and in twentieth-century Italian popular culture.

Umberto Eco was an Italian medievalist, philosopher, semiotician, novelist, cultural critic, and political and social commentator. In English, he is best known for his popular 1980 novel The Name of the Rose, a historical mystery combining semiotics in fiction with biblical analysis, medieval studies and literary theory, as well as Foucault's Pendulum, his 1988 novel which touches on the history of occultism and its contemporary interpretation through the new age movement.
