«The Phoenix and the Carpet» is Diana Kordas's adaptation of Edith Nesbit's children's novel, published by New Editions in paperback.
A phoenix and a magic carpet turn some children's lives into an adventure: when they make a wish, the carpet lifts them over London, but a hole in the fabric makes two of them fall onto the roof of a house beside a chimney.
Published in 2000 by New Editions, it is part of the Bestseller Readers collection, level 3; 99 pages, in English.
Suitable for students of English as a second language following graded readers.
Edith Nesbit was an English writer and poet, who published her books for children and others as E. Nesbit. She wrote or collaborated on more than 60 such books. She was also a political activist and co-founder of the Fabian Society, a socialist organisation later affiliated to the Labour Party.
