«Three Daughters of Eve» is the contemporary novel by Elif Shafak, published by Viking in hardcover (384 pages, in English).
Peri, a Turkish housewife, goes to a dinner in Istanbul when a beggar snatches her bag and an old polaroid photo falls out: three young women with their professor. The image makes her recall her time at Oxford, where she met Shirin and Mona, with whom she argued about Islam, faith and feminism with a provocative professor, until the scandal that separated them.
The novel's original title is «Havva'nın Üç Kızı»; this English edition was published in February 2017.
For readers of literary fiction interested in contemporary Istanbul, identity, Islam, feminism and the tension between tradition and modernity.
Elif Shafak is a Turkish-British novelist, essayist, public speaker, political scientist, and activist.
