«Tristano muere» is the novel by Antonio Tabucchi, published by Editorial Anagrama in hardcover (200 pages, in Spanish).
A man lies dying and, between fever and morphine, evokes his life in a monologue of dreams, desires and regrets. A writer listens and transcribes; the narrative questions whether a life can be told. The narration reconstructs Tristano, Clark or Ninototo, a hero of World War II, and the limits of heroism, memory and history.
It belongs to the Panorama de narrativas collection, volume 588. Translation by Carlos Gumpert. First edition published in 2004.
For readers of contemporary fiction and psychological novels, and for those who follow the work of Antonio Tabucchi.

Antonio Tabucchi was an Italian writer and academic who taught Portuguese language and literature at the University of Siena, Italy. Deeply in love with Portugal, he was an expert, critic and translator of the works of Fernando Pessoa from whom he drew the conceptions of saudade, of fiction and of the heteronyms. Tabucchi was first introduced to Pessoa's works in the 1960s when attending the Sorbonne. He was so charmed that when he returned to Italy, he took an introductory course in Portuguese for a better comprehension of the poet.
