«Un siècle d'oubli, le XXe» is the historical essay by Jean-Claude Carrière, published by Editions Odile Jacob in paperback (344 pages, in French).
The book brings together anecdotes, personal memories and philosophical reflections with which Carrière traverses the 20th century and the beginnings of the 21st. Far from linear history, it builds a subjective mosaic of known episodes told from unexpected angles. Memory and its forgetfulness are the common thread, in a work that combines humor and gravity.
The work falls within the categories of history, philosophy, literature and fiction; it was published on September 30, 2020.
For readers interested in historical memory, the personal essay and a fragmentary vision of the 20th century.
