«Underground Railroad» is the historical novel by Colson Whitehead, published by Albin Michel in paperback (416 pages, in French).
Cora, a sixteen-year-old slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia, flees with Caesar to the North via the underground railroad, which here materializes as a real railway line. Pursued by a slave catcher, her odyssey through South Carolina, Tennessee, and Indiana lays bare the mechanisms of racism in a divided America.
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. Originally published in English in 2016; this French edition is translated by Serge Chauvin.
A work recommended for book clubs and for readers of historical fiction and literary narrative about slavery in the United States.
