«Une partie de chasse» is the literary fiction novel by Agnès Desarthe, published by POINTS in paperback (168 pages, in French).
Tristan joins a hunting party urged on by his wife, though killing animals isn't his thing. He wounds a rabbit and, when another hunter falls into an underground gallery, waits beside him as the storm arrives. He talks with the rabbit and recalls his childhood with an addicted mother and an absent father, a past that has made him reserved and sensitive.
Work originally published in 2012, winner of the Prix 30 millions d'amis and selected that year for the Prix Renaudot and the Grand Prix des lectrices de Elle.
Recommended for readers of literary fiction and contemporary French narrative who value psychological introspection and an intimate tone.
