Vigilia del almirante

Synopsis of Vigilia del almirante

«Vigilia del almirante» is the historical novel by Augusto Roa Bastos, published by Alfaguara in paperback (384 pages, in Spanish).

Augusto Roa Bastos approaches Christopher Columbus from an unofficial perspective and portrays him as an ordinary, obsessive, and enigmatic man. The novel combines humor, adventure, and reflection to narrate the discovery of America from the side of the New World, vindicating the indigenous universe that the admiral himself claims for its inhabitants.

Published in 1992 within the Alfaguara Hispánica collection. Roa Bastos (1917-2005) was awarded the Cervantes Prize in 1989.

Aimed at readers interested in Latin American narrative and in a literary vision of Christopher Columbus far from official history.
