Born in Puerto de la Cruz, Juan Cruz Ruiz is a key figure in contemporary Spanish journalism. His literary career began in 1972 when he won the Benito Pérez Armas Prize for his first novel. He was one of the founding members of the newspaper El País in 1976, marking a milestone in Spanish press.
