Régine Deforges was a multifaceted figure who worked as a bookseller, bookbinder, publisher, screenwriter, and film director.
Born in Montmorillon, her passion for reading began in the religious institutions where she was educated during her childhood.
In 1968, she became the first female publisher in France, although her first published book was seized shortly after its release.
Her most iconic work, The Blue Bicycle, was awarded the prestigious Prix des Maisons de la Presse in 1983.
