«Messiaen: Quartet for the End of Time» is the compilation by Olivier Messiaen, released in 1996 by Philips, on CD.
The CD brings together two works by Olivier Messiaen: «Quatuor pour la fin du temps» and «Et Exspecto Resurrectionem Mortuorum». Composed around spirituality, both pieces invite meditation on time and eternity, with passages of great sonic intensity and a writing style characteristic of the French composer.
The performance is by Vera Beths, George Pieterson, Anner Bijlsma, Reinbert de Leeuw and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Bernard Haitink.
For classical music listeners interested in modern repertoire and works of spiritual content.
