Apócrifo del clavel y la espina is a novel by the Spanish writer Luis Mateo Díez. The work narrates two legendary chronicles that reconstruct the history of a lineage in a valley of the northwest peninsula, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. The first chronicle spans almost a thousand years and reveals a terrible secret, while the second tells the last winter of a castaway in his manor house. They are stories of passion, oblivion, heroism and ruin, transmitted orally and narrated with a lyricism full of symbols.
Luis Mateo Díez Rodríguez is a Spanish writer. He has written widely in a variety of genres, and has published over 50 books to date. He is best known for his works that focus on the fictional Kingdom of Celama. Two of his novels have won both the Premio de la Crítica and the Premio Nacional de Narrativa - La fuente de la edad in 1986, and La ruina del cielo in 2000. Díez also won the National Prize for Spanish Literature in 2020.
