«California 83» is a contemporary fiction novel by Pepe Colubi, published by Booket in paperback (352 pages, in Spanish).
In 1983, Pipi, a Spanish teenager from the provinces, is sent to California to study for his COU with a Methodist family. The novel narrates his adaptation to high school, surfing, MTV and American customs, against the Spain he leaves behind. His fear of ridicule turns the experience into a comedy of misunderstandings between two cultures.
First edition published on January 9, 2014 within Booket's Special Collection.
For readers who enjoy generational comedies about the clash between Spanish and American culture in the 1980s.
