In seventeenth-century France, Cyrano, a swordsman and poet of great wit, feels unworthy of the love of his cousin Roxane because of his enormous nose. When she falls for the handsome Christian, Cyrano lends him his eloquence to win her over, in a game of identities full of passion and sacrifice.
Play premiered in 1897, number 206 of the Austral Collection by Espasa-Calpe; this edition includes a prologue by Jesús Pardo.
For readers of classic theatre and students of French literature.

Edmond Eugène Alexis Rostand was a French poet and dramatist. He is associated with neo-romanticism and is known best for his 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac. Rostand's romantic plays contrasted with the naturalistic theatre popular during the late nineteenth century. Another of Rostand's works, Les Romanesques (1894), was adapted to the 1960 musical comedy The Fantasticks.
