«Dark Back of Time» is the contemporary fiction novel by Javier Marías, published by Vintage in paperback (336 pages, in English).
After publishing All Souls, Marías sees how reality invades his fiction: readers who recognize themselves in characters, confusions between author and narrator. With digressive and autobiographical writing, he meditates on the fragility of life, chance and memory, and on the writer as guardian of memories destined to be lost in time.
Work originally published in 1998 as «Negra espalda del tiempo»; this edition is translated by Esther Allen.
Recommended for readers of contemporary literary fiction and those interested in Spanish literature and books that reflect on writing.
