«Dark Back of Time» is the literary fiction novel by Javier Marías, published by Penguin Classics in paperback (336 pages, in English).
Between memory and imagination, a narrator named Javier Marías recalls encounters and events that marked him: spectral writers, a pilot, an adventurer, a brother dead in childhood, and a Caribbean monarch. The reflection on transience and time blurs the boundary between the real and the invented.
English translation by Esther Allen. Penguin Modern Classics edition; work originally published in Spanish.
