Ecotopia: Dietari i articles de William Weston es una novela de ciencia ficción escrita por Ernest Callenbach, publicada en 1975 y ambientada en 1999. La historia describe un estado ecologista formado por el norte de California y los estados de Oregón y Washington. El protagonista, William Weston, es un periodista estadounidense que viaja a Ecotopia para escribir un reportaje y contribuir a que vuelva a formar parte de los Estados Unidos. La novela presenta una sociedad con poca contaminación, donde se recicla y reutiliza casi todo, los plásticos son biodegradables y hay una visión distinta del consumo, con un aprovechamiento agrícola, forestal e industrial sostenible. El principal medio de transporte es el tren de alta velocidad, que comunica todo el país, sustituyendo al transporte privado. La capital es San Francisco, donde los taxis, autobuses y tranvías son eléctricos, y en todo el país se utilizan fuentes de energía renovables.
