In the 1st century AD, Pomponio Flato embarks on a journey through the confines of the Roman Empire in search of miraculous waters. Fate leads him to Nazareth, where a carpenter is about to be executed for the murder of a wealthy citizen. Reluctantly, Pomponio becomes involved in solving the crime, hired by the carpenter's son, an innocent child who believes in his father's innocence, an apparently quiet man but who hides a great secret. This novel is a mix of historical novel, police novel and parody, an unusual and funny work by Eduardo Mendoza.
